Dalporto Farm — Coordinates & Boundaries Report
Berkeley Drive, Poe / Summersville · Grant District, Nicholas County, West Virginia · USGS Gilboa 7.5′ quadrangle
Compiled from (1) the "Farm Files" mining-permit package (449 files) and (2) West Virginia public GIS / assessor records. Coordinates are WGS84 lat/long unless noted.
⚠️ Two different boundaries — don't confuse them
The files contain two distinct polygons that overlap on the same land:
- Your farm parcel — the land the Dalporto family owns in fee. This is what "the boundary of my farm" means. Exact surveyed outline is available (below).
- The Keenan Branch Surface Mine permit — a coal-mining permit (Keenan Minerals, LLC) that covers part of your farm plus several neighbors' tracts. Its boundary is a different shape and is only drawn graphically on scanned maps.
1. Your farm parcel (the property boundary)

| County / District | Nicholas County, WV (FIPS 54067) · Grant District (tax district 02) |
| Parcel ID | 34‑02‑0016‑0027‑0000 (map 16, parcel 27; "16‑27") |
| Deeded acreage | 469.224 acres (GIS‑calculated 431.1 ac) |

| Bounding box | S 38.252737 · W −80.962074 · N 38.266401 · E −80.941568 (≈1.55 mi × 0.94 mi) |

| Access road | Berkeley Drive (E‑911 addresses 362/383/459/529 fall inside the parcel); physical addr "OFF RT 129" |
Exact boundary geometry: dalporto_farm_boundary.geojson (both tracts, 69‑vertex main polygon) and dalporto_farm_boundary_latlon.json ([lat, lon] list + center + bbox). Pulled from the WV GIS Technical Center statewide parcel service (native projection UTM 17N / EPSG:26917; reprojected to WGS84). Verify interactively at mapwv.gov/parcel → search parcel 34020016002700000000.
On the permit's SHPO maps this same tract is labeled "Dalporto Tract ~486 ac." — an older rounded figure for the 469‑ac parcel.
2. The mining permit (separate boundary that overlaps your farm)
| Field | Value |
|---|---|
| Mine name | Keenan Branch Surface Mine |
| Operator | Keenan Minerals, LLC (P.O. Box 309, 407 Prosperity Rd, Prosperity, WV 25909) |
| Permit no. | S‑3008‑10 (form ID S300810) · NPDES WV1024558 · status at print "ERIS – Tech Corr Requested" (Nov 2011) |
| Reference point | 38°15′44″ N, 80°56′32″ W (= core hole KB‑2‑09) — the single official "mine location" point |
| Coordinate system | NAD 83 WV State Plane, South Zone (feet). Grid frame ticks: E 1,976,000–1,992,000 / N 452,000–468,000 |
| Permit acreage | 132.07 ac (current design) — mineral removal 125.83 ac, disturbed 6.24 ac |
| — earlier design | 211.23 ac (156.27 removal / 54.96 disturbed) on the SHPO maps; ATT‑N1 phasing implies ~159 ac |
| Coal seams | No. 2 Gas, Eagle "A", Eagle Rider, Eagle |
| Your farm's role | Permit Tract 1 — "John Dalporto owns in fee; Keenan Minerals holds a coal lease" |
Important: The permit maps print no boundary‑corner coordinates. The permit outline is plotted graphically and located in the field by numbered "PERIMETER MARKER" / "PERMANENT MONUMENT" survey points (markers 1–~23 on the SHPO maps).
The permit boundary is NOT in any public WV GIS (verified Aug 2026). The authoritative WVDEP DMR boundary service (tagis.dep.wv.gov/.../mining_reclamation/MapServer, layers 9/8/7, field permit_id='S300810') returns 0 features — the mine application was denied (~2013) and never became a bonded, digitized permit. So the only representation of this boundary is the graphic on the scanned maps (Proposal Drainage Map.pdf, Geohydrologic Map.pdf, BLASTING MAP.pdf, SHPO Map 500NEW.pdf, SHPO Map 2000NEW.pdf) — which would have to be georeferenced and digitized. Practically: the surface mine was never built, and for the trail map you want the farm parcel boundary, not this.
3. Control points (39 lat/long features)
Transcribed from the Proposal Drainage Map — 4 core holes (KB‑1‑09…KB‑4‑09), 8 water‑monitoring sites, 26 NPDES outlets, and the reference point. Saved as keenan_mine_control_points.geojson. These bracket the mine area (lat 38°14′52″–38°16′31″ N, long 80°55′57″–80°57′55″ W) and are useful as map layers, but they are mine features, not the farm's property corners.
Data QC: the I‑10 driller log mislabels KB‑1‑09 with KB‑4‑09's coordinate; the Proposal Drainage Map values (used here) are the correct ones.
4. Setting / landmarks
On Keenan Branch, among Whitewater Branch, Laurel Creek, and Meadow Creek — all tributary to Peters Creek → Gauley River. Access off WV Route 129; community of Poe ~1 mi SW; Summersville ~7 mi NE. Elevations on the tract range ~1,200′–1,965′. It is a re‑mine of a previously mined bench formerly worked by Greenbank Coal Company.
